From Erasmus to Rousseau Europe has had a major impact on the development of Educational theory and today its HEIs and Universities continue to play a leading role. In the UCL Institute of Education Europe has the world’s best HEIs at which to study education, according to the QS World University Rankings 2016. Located in the UK, UCL offers more than 50 taught masters degrees in subject ranging from Digital Technologies in Education, to Early Years and Childhood, to Psychology and Special Education Needs. Research degrees are offered at UCL’s Centre for Doctoral Education. Generally in the UK students wanting to become a professional teacher follow a Bachelor’s degree with a 1 year Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE). EHEVF 2016 India and South Asia participant Leiden University in the Netherlands is also internationally recognised for this subject. Ranking in the QS World’s Top 100, it is home to the Leiden Institute of Education and Child Studies. English-taught Masters degrees on offer here include Child and Family Studies, Learning Problems and Impairments, and Applied Neuroscience in Education and Child Studies. The Institute also offers several three year Bachelor’s degrees Educational and Child Studies degrees, including in Clinical Child and Adolescent Studies. Fellow Dutch EHEVF 2016 participant the University of Groningen is also well regarded internationally and it offers a 1 year MSc in English in Pedagogical Science and specialises in communication and deaf blindness.
